The City of Port Phillip council required an architectural design for a youth center which could act as a safe space for the youth of st Kilda and Prahran.

The building overlooks st Kilda beach and is three stories high to give the intended audience more space to feel free and welcomed. The center provides areas to socialize, study, have access to nutritious food, and a place to make local friends and share knowledge on how to stay safe whilst living in the area. All three levels include singular and communal seating areas that can allow for solitude, as well as socialization with peers.

On the ground floor a reception desk allows for thorough checking to make sure that those using the building and its facilities are its intended audience. To enter the building there are two air locks that prevent wind and outside temperature leaking into the building, keeping the building at a consistent comfortable temperature.

The first floor has several rows of book shelves that give the young people access to knowledge and a form of entertainment. There is also a balcony that is on top of the exposed roof of the ground floor, that includes greenery and outdoor seating area.

The second floor includes a kitchen area for people to create their own food, or cook for others, as well as a pantry that will be regularly stocked, and a dining area that allows for people to eat together, and share recipes, stories, and culture.

They also asked me to design a mural that will be put up in the area, the goal of the mural is to give the area a more friendly, accepting, and inclusive place, as well has highlighting the importance of friendship and comradery.

The second design, a mural, featuring purple as the main color stands out as people walk or drive by. The main focus of the mural is outlines of groups of friends, communicating ideas of close bonds, friendship, loyalty, and comradery. A darker purple outline of the figures makes it easier to understand the content of the mural, as well as making the mural visually appealing.
