My series “Botanical Malady” is a personal interpretation on the perception of illness and disease. While usually viewed as unattractive and unpleasant, or often invisible, I decided to represent it as flora and nature. My series allowed me to reflect on my own experiences, as well as further exploring this motif by subvert the typical idea of illness, as I depicted a physical representation of diseases and conditions that are often left unnoticed. I’ve blended the use of bright, complementary colours with the stark white of the blank figures to accentuate the melancholic horror that disease often brings.
