1-3 | Gouache on univeristy paper

4 | Gouache and pencil on paper

My intention for this series was to capture the natural beauty of the Australian landscape, in particular the country landscapes, and encourage people to escape from the stress and madness of life in the city. I included soft cool colours that were like the landscapes I had referenced in Western Victoria. The paintings were inspired by my family’s farm, in Western Victoria, as well as the Victorian country landscapes that feature manmade structures, such as wind turbines, so I wanted to create a series that had a personal element to it, allowing for not only myself but my extended family to resonate with the paintings and admire the beauty of the familiar landscapes. I aimed to initiate feelings of peace and connections to the Australian countryside through my paintings, and create an escape from stress, encouraging people to go out and experience these landscapes physically to admire the natural beauty of Australia.
